"O yes, our lives are going on without us,
O no, we never finished chasing." -- James Tate

W e used to use the word empty
a lot, the lot of us,
late nights, around this table or
that buglight.
We used to say, "Bullshit,"
to each other,
as often as we kissed each other's
women. That was just
the times
we were living in, the extra moments
we had before
our flickering imperturbability.
Now, the glow is gone and in its place
there are tools
which we have yet to figure out.
But we work hard with them,
late nights,
around the atelier,
around the end of this millennium.
